Wed 15 – It’s all about 1990s kiddie nostalgia at Sundance Square tonight. As part of their Wednesday outdoor movie series, they’re showing Little Giants, a 1994 comedy that stars Rick Moranis (remember him?) as a dweeb who decides to put together his own peewee football team to challenge the one coached by his brother, played by Ed O’Neill. The movie screens at 9pm at 4th & Main sts, FW. Admission is free.

 

Thur 16 – The world’s greatest opera singers have all sung at La Scala, and the premieres of Verdi’s Otello and Falstaff and Puccini’s Madama Butterflly and Tosca have taken place there. Tonight, a broadcast called Teatro alla Scala: The Temple of Wonders takes you behind the scenes at this storied and recently refurbished opera house. Fri 17 – Inspired by a previous experience with Darren McGavin (of TV’s Bewitched), Tom Dudzick wrote his comedy Don’t Talk to the Actors, a farce about a young and impressionable playwright who jeopardizes the Broadway production of his first-ever play by trying too hard to please the actors. Sat 18 – There’s nothing unusual about music from Star Wars being played at Concerts in the Garden, but this year there’s a new Star Wars movie contributing music to Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s tribute to film music. You can hear excerpts from The Force Awakens Fri thru today at Fort Worth Botanic Garden, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, FW. Tickets are $22-50. Call 817-665-6000.

 

Sun 19 – The eccentric schedule of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs means that you can take in the music all through the week. Tonight, the preliminary round begins with the first of 72 part-time pianists (22 of whom have competed here before) taking the stage. Mon 20 – The British seem to have liked the stage musical version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang more than the Americans did, but that won’t stop Artisan Center Theatre from putting on this show about a car that flies through the air and sails on the sea. Tues 21 – While the best soccer teams in Europe and the Americas battle in their respective tournaments for international glory, the Fort Worth Vaqueros continue their fight for a playoff spot in the NPSL’s South Division.
