Carlos Brumfield ponders a sudden windfall at Jubilee Theatre’s Livin’ Fat.

Wed 25 – Martin McDonagh’s first new play in more than 10 years is Hangmen, and its recent production at Bristol’s Old Vic has won raves for its humorous but weighty depiction of a 1960s executioner (played by David Morrissey from TV’s The Walking Dead) who’s thrown out of work when Britain abolishes the death penalty. You can see a broadcast of this play at 2pm & 7pm today and Sat at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Tickets are $12-20. Call 817-923-3012.

Thur 26 – For the first time in its 70-year history, the PGA tournament at the Colonial Country Club will not have “Colonial” in its title. Instead, the Dean & DeLuca Invitational bears the name of a chain of upscale grocery stores, the closest of which is in Kansas. Still, you can watch Chris Kirk defend his title against a field that includes six former champions, Wed thru Sun at 3735 Country Club Cir, FW. Tickets are $13.50-270. Call 817-927-4280.

Fri 27 – Before her untimely death seven years ago from natural causes at age 54, Judi Ann Mason was a prolific playwright and TV writer. The setup of her 1972 play Livin’ Fat does seem to be close (maybe too close) to that of a sitcom, but it won awards at the time for its depiction of a bank janitor who comes by a bag of cash as the result of a robbery. Jubilee Theatre’s production runs today thru Jun 26 at 506 Main St, FW. Tickets are $20-32. Call 817-338-4411.

Sat 28 – Paul Zindel is thought of as a one-hit wonder, winning the Pulitzer Prize for his play The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds and then never writing anything that influential again. Tarrant Area Regional Theatre hopes to rescue his reputation by putting on his follow-up play, The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild, the only production of the company’s abbreviated 2015-16 season. The show runs Thu thru Jun 4 at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy St, FW. Tickets are $8-12. Call 682-231-0082.

Sun 29 – The jury’s still out on how well Jeffrey Hatcher did in adapting Frederick Knott’s successful but badly dated 1966 stage play Wait Until Dark. What’s certain is that this thriller is still a terrific vehicle for the right actress. Stage West puts on this updated kitsch classic this weekend. The show runs Thu thru Jun 26 at 821 W Vickery St, FW. Tickets are $17-35. Call 817-784-9378.

Mon 30 – While you’re taking the day off, Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, the Denton institution that is about to close for good, is also taking the day off from hosting music. Instead, it’s hosting the venue’s last comedy show ever, so come laugh at Riverboat Gamblers’ Mike Wiebe as well as Bill Curley and Darcy Littlefield. The show is at 9pm at 411 E Sycamore St, Denton. Tickets are $1-3. Call 940-387-7781.

Tues 31 – E.L. Doctorow’s sprawling 1975 novel Ragtime became a sprawling musical in 1998. A look at the various travails of three people from widely different backgrounds in turn-of-the-century America, the show rather skims along the surface of things and doesn’t have Doctorow’s skillful plotting, but it does have some terrific numbers. Ragtime runs thru Jun 5 at Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 1st Av, Dallas. Tickets are $20-99. Call 214-631-2787.
