Wed 18 – The disturbing recent reports of widespread coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef lends an extra potency to Coral Reef Adventure, one of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s current IMAX documentaries. Howard and Michele Hall’s film made in the South Pacific already strikes a warning about climate change, but there may be a need for a far more dire documentary soon. Thur 19 – Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s season may be officially over, but they’re still performing. This week, they’re playing Schumann’s “Spring” Symphony for free at the Maddox-Muse Center. What better way to relax during your workday than to stop in on your lunch hour and hear this first foray into orchestral music from a composer who had been known for piano pieces. The concerts are 12:30pm Thu thru today at Van Cliburn Recital Hall, 330 E 5th St, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-665-6000.

Fri 20 – If you’re up in Grapevine, you don’t have to travel all the way down to Fort Worth or Dallas this weekend to get the latest craft beer. Instead, you can attend the 32nd annual Main Street Fest, where 36 brewers from around the country will have their brews available for tasting. For one weekend, Grapevine will be beer country. Sat 21 – Artes de la Rosa is no stranger to hip-hop musicals, having staged Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights a few years ago. This week they open Welcome to Arroyo’s, a rap musical about a bar owner and his family which has a connection to the history of rap music. Sun 22 – Antoine, Louis, and Mathieu Le Nain painted ordinary people in their natural settings at a time when most of French art was obsessed with grand mythical and historic subjects. Their styles and subject matter were so similar that they’re usually considered as a group, so they get a group exhibition. The Brothers Le Nain: Painters of Seventeenth-Century France runs today thru Sep 11 at the Kimbell Art Museum, 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, FW. Admission is $10-14. Call 817-332-8451.

 

Mon 23 – Last month marked 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare, and the British never miss a chance to commemorate its greatest writer. Tonight at 7pm, you can catch a live broadcast of The Shakespeare Show, which features excerpts of the Bard’s plays performed by the likes of Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, and Benedict Cumberbatch, at various movie theaters. Tues 24 – If Ronald Reagan saw what the Republican Party was going through today, he’d undoubtedly weep or switch back to being a Democrat. James Rosebush, the former chief of staff to First Lady Nancy Reagan, comes to Fort Worth at 11:30am to discuss his new book, True Reagan: What Made Ronald Reagan Great and Why It Matters, at Fort Worth Club, 306 W 7th St, FW.
