Wed 4 – The Fort Worth Opera runs its annual Frontiers concerts this week, with excerpts from: Mikael Karlsson’s Diana Vreeland, about the famous fashion editor; Andrew McManus’ Killing the Goat, adapted from a Mario Vargas Llosa novel; and Joseph Rubinstein’s Legendary, set in New York’s drag queen culture in the 1960s. The concerts are Wed thru today at Kimbell Art Museum, 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, FW. Tickets are $10. Call 817-288-1214.

 

Thur 5 – The end of the semester means it’s time for TCC Northwest Dance Company to show us what they’ve learned this year. They hold a concert of Assorted Pieces at 1pm and then a student choreography showcase at 7:30pm tonight at 4801 Marine Creek Pkwy, FW. Fri 6 – Athletes from Australia, Mauritius, Japan, and Italy as well as North America will come to Fort Worth this weekend for the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour, with Fort Worth hosting the first of five events in this season. The competition runs today thru Sat at Marine Creek Lake, 4700 Huffines Blvd, FW. Tickets are $5-10.

 

Sat 7 – Not to be outdone by the outdoor festivals we’ve been having here in Fort Worth, our neighbors to the east are throwing their own wingding called Arlington Proud. In addition to arts and crafts displays and demonstrations, the event features live music by the likes of Sam Houston Mariachi Band and local craft beer. The festival is noon-8pm at 500 E Main St, Arlington. Admission is free.

 

Sun 8 – The London native K. Yoland makes photography and video installations that incorporate pictures of the Dallas area with fictitious letters relating not to Dallas but to the histories of marginalized and excluded peoples throughout the world. You can see these when her exhibits Letters without an address and Hidden Histories open. They run May 7-30 at the MAC, 1601 S Ervay St, Dallas. Admission is free. Call 214-953-1212.

 

Mon 9 – “I will pick up the book, / You will see something new. / Two things, and I call them / Thing One and Thing Two.” Artisan Center Theatre opens its new children’s theater production of The Cat in the Hat, Katie Mitchell’s adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ book. The show runs May 6-Jun 11 at Belaire Theater, 420 E Pipeline Rd, Hurst. Tickets are $5-10. Call 817-284-1200.

 

Tues 10 – The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth’s Focus exhibition spotlights the work of Thomas Demand, a photographer who raises questions about the nature of authenticity by building intricate replicas of historical sites (the Oval Office, Saddam Hussein’s kitchen) before taking pictures of them. The show runs thru Jul 17 at 3200 Darnell St, FW. Admission is $4-10. Call 817-738-9215.
