Wed 24 – An ACL tear will keep Megan Rapinoe out of the Olympics this year, but it won’t keep the World Cup-winning U.S. women’s soccer team’s marauding left-winger from holding a training camp this evening for girls ages 10-18 who have dreams of their own World Cup and Olympic glory. Thur 25 – It’s not every classical ensemble that hands you a tasting menu when you walk in the door, but SHUFFLE Concert does that, encouraging concertgoers to pick which individual pieces from different styles of music and then determining which pieces they play through a lottery system. Fri 26 – Inspired by the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan American Flight 103 over Scotland, Deborah Brevoort cast the event as the basis of a Greek tragedy called The Women of Lockerbie, telling the story of the women of the nearby town who laundered the victims’ clothes and returned them to their families. Sat 27 – This unseasonably warm winter should give us a beautiful setting for the Cowtown Marathon. The 38th annual run stretches over the entire weekend and includes different distances ranging from 5K all the way to ultramarathon. Sun 28 – Virgil Thomson’s 1947 opera The Mother of Us All hasn’t yet solidified its spot in the repertoire, but this collaboration between Thomson and Gertrude Stein remains a formidable work, and its subject (Susan B. Anthony and her leadership of the American women’s suffrage movement) remains pertinent to our society today. UNT’s production runs 8pm Fri and 3pm today at Lyric Theater, 801 N Texas Blvd, Denton. Mon 29- Dallas Summer Musicals chooses Leap Day to stage its one and only performance of Million Dollar Quartet in Fort Worth. This musical revue imagines the events that led to the real-life jam session in 1956 with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Tues 1 – Tony Formby took an abandoned building in Hell’s Half Acre and turned it into the Acre Distilling Co., a coffeehouse and bar that manufactures its own artisanal liquor. He’ll discuss his work and the science that goes into distilling in a lecture called Hell-Bent on Distilling: How a Distillery Project in Hell’s Half Acre Evolved Into Much More at 7pm at T&P Tavern, 221 W Lancaster Av, FW.
