Wed 17 – Josh Fox earned an Oscar nomination for his anti-fracking documentary Gasland. Now you can see what he’s been doing for an encore when he premieres his new film, How to Let Go of the World (and Love Everything Climate Can’t Change), at Thin Line Fest, an annual event featuring documentary films and live music at various Denton venues. Thur 18 – Sir William Walton composed the Crown Imperial March for the coronation of King Edward VIII, but after the king abdicated before the ceremony, the music was performed for the coronation of his brother and successor, King George VI. Symphony Arlington performs the march along with Mozart’s 25th Piano Concerto, with Sara Daneshpour as soloist, at 7:30pm at Arlington Music Hall, 224 N Center St, Arlington. Fri 19 – This year’s Empty Bowls promises to be even bigger than usual. The 14th annual fundraiser for the Tarrant Area Food Bank features food from local restaurants and free artist-designed bowls as always. However, this year also includes auctions of foodie experiences and bowls signed by celebrities like Coach Gary Patterson, Lyle Lovett, and Jason Alexander. The event is 11am at Will Rogers Memorial Center, 3401 W Lancaster Av, FW. Tickets are $60-150. Call 817-857-7137.

 

Sat 20 – You get four dance companies for the price of one ticket at the 2016 AIDS Outreach Center Benefit Concert. Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, Nymbal new ballet, Out on a Limb Dance, and wild goose chase dance all perform, so you can sample what these different North Texas troupes have to offer, with all proceeds going to the charity. Sun 21 – John Fletcher wrote a sequel to The Taming of the Shrew called The Tamer Tamed (or The Woman’s Prize) a few years after Shakespeare, imagining Petruchio widowed and remarrying a woman who’s even more difficult to manage than his first wife. Having opened Shakespeare’s comedy last week, Stolen Shakespeare Guild now begins Fletcher’s play as well and runs it side by side Fri thru Mar 6 at Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy St, FW. Mon 22 – This whole year is given over to Lonesome Dove celebrations. It started with the exhibit at Sid Richardson, and the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame is opening its costume show this week. However, today you can see photographs from Lonesome Dove, which runs Fri thru Apr 17 at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, 1600 Gendy St, FW. Tickets are $13-15. Call 817-255-9300.

 

Tues 23 – A native of Addison (the one in Illinois), Kyle Kinane has appeared on The Tonight Show, Conan, and Comedy Central’s Drunk History. Now, fresh off the release of his DVD I Liked His Old Stuff Better, the comic comes to Amphibian Productions for a rare night of midweek standup comedy in Fort Worth.
