“ARRANGED HOUSES” (2010) BY CAROL BENSON

This week’s ”Art” page features a chat with Fort Worth painter Carol Benson. Her current show at the William Campbell Contemporary offers semi-abstract images of houses that trigger all kinds of questions about stability, comfort, insiderness, and outsiderness. Like all viable art, they quietly entangle the viewer.

Two of Benson’s big early influences were the American painters Jasper Johns and Ellsworth Kelly. While the interweb doesn’t come close to reproducing the effect of standing in front of a real canvas in an actual gallery or museum, the reliable Google image bank does offer the chance to peruse a variety of works by Johns and Kelly at a digital distance.
