Wed 19 – Before Shakespeare, so-called “morality plays” were written to show characters resisting temptation in favor of a virtuous life, but none have survived the years better than Everyman, an anonymous 15th-century work that touches on basic questions of human existence. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in a modern-dress adaptation of this medieval drama, broadcast as part of National Theatre Live at 2pm & 7pm at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Tickets are $12-20. Call 817-923-3012.

Thur 20 – Fort Worth Weekly contributor and Boiled Owl Tavern barkeep Steve Steward will be among the participants in Stir, our paper’s monthly craft cocktail competition. However, his three competitors won’t have to worry. As always, we bring in celebrity judges to make sure the contest results aren’t unduly influenced. Good luck to everyone making drinks with this month’s featured liquor, Bulldog Gin. The contest is at 6pm at The Usual, 1408 W Magnolia Av, FW. Admission (which includes drinks) is $10. Strand renders the play in rhyming couplets and doesn’t shy away from its darker aspects. The show runs Thu thru Sep 19 at Circle Theatre, 230 W 4th St, FW. Tickets are $10-30. Call 817-877-3040.

Tickets are $12-17. Call 817-784-9378.

Mon 24 – Tolbert’s is known as a music venue and burger joint in Grapevine, but tonight they’re trying something different to liven up a slow Monday. The event starts at 8:15pm at 423 S Main St, Grapevine. Admission is free. Call 817-421-4888.

Tue 25 – Can they do it? Can the Rangers pull themselves up into one of those wildcard playoff slots in the American League? We’ll know a lot more after their three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays, one of their chief rivals in the wildcard chase. A newly reloaded Jays team is itself looking to catch the Yankees for the division lead, so the task won’t be easy for the home side. The series runs today thru Thu at Globe Life Park, 1200 Ballpark Way, Arlington. Tickets are $13-210. Call 817-273-5100.
