Superintendent Named

The Fort Worth School District named Kent Paredes Scribner the sole finalist for the superintendent job. The board chose Scribner, currently the head honcho in Phoenix, from a field of 67 applicants. He will take the helm from interim superintendent Patricia Linares, who took over after Walter Dansby abruptly retired last year.

More Cops in the Budget

Last night, the Fort Worth City Council took a look at a preliminary budget that will, among other things, add a sixth police division. The proposed fiscal 2016 budget also calls for more money to fix streets, build community centers and parks, and, curiously, buy more library books –– because people still go to the library, apparently.

Officer Fired

The Arlington Police officer who shot killed an unarmed college football player has been fired for “exercising poor judgment,” the city’s police chief said Tuesday. Officer Brad Miller lost his job because of the August 7 incident at a car dealership in Arlington.

Our nut-job attorney general Ken Paxton filed a brief Monday in support of a lawsuit brought by East Texas Baptist University and Houston Baptist University against the federal government over a provision of the Affordable Care Act requiring some employers to offer health plans that include contraceptive coverage. In non-local hilarious news, Jets quarterback Gino Smith got his jaw broken by rookie [now former]linebacker Ikemefuna “IK” Enemkpali. The two were arguing over $600. Now the QB is out for 6-10 weeks, and IK is out of the league.
