Police Shoot Armed Man Downtown
A man is dead after a Fort Worth police officer came upon a group of people fighting near West 5th and Houston Streets early this morning. Police said one of the suspects ignored an order to drop his weapon, and police shot him. Internal Affairs is investigating.
Police Find A Man Shot
About a half hour later, police found a man shot in a driveway in South Fort Worth on East Arlington Avenue. The victim was taken to the hospital, and police are investigating.
Postal Worker Arrested For Threats
After those first two news bites, this one is almost a welcome relief –– nobody was shot! Postal worker Arsenio Viray Manansala only reminded us where the phrase “going postal” comes from. Police arrested him at the post office on Mark IV Parkway earlier this week after he allegedly threatened to shoot an employee and anyone else in his way.
If They Only Knew
More than 100 students from eight countries visited attorney Jim Lane’s ranch as part of a Sister Cities program. Lane owns property in Parker County, and a Mexican counselor couldn’t believe the size. “It seems so big. It’s huge, it’s huge,” Marquez said. “I knew we were coming to a big ranch, but this is humongous.” Lane’s ranch is surely a nice spread, but it’s only 100 acres. Marquez might have had a coronary if they’d visited the King Ranch’s 825,000 acres.
Janis Ian Provides One More Reason To Abhor Bill Cosby
“I learned the truth at 17… ,” Janis Ian sang decades ago in her smash hit “At Seventeen.” But she learned the truth at least a year earlier, at 16, after she says Bill Cosby tried to get her banned from television for being gay. She calls him pathetic. This comes on the heels of three dozen women accusing Cosby of drugging and raping them. At this point, would anyone be surprised to find a bunch of dead kittens hanging in Cosby’s basement? Would anyone be surprised to find Cosby hanging in his basement? Chances are the curmudgeonly comic will be just fine. Here’s an old quote attributed to Cosby: “Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.” (Wonder if he laughed at the dead kittens joke?)
