Artisan Center Theater puts on Guys and Dolls thru Aug 29.

Wed 29 – Known for his prolific art career depicting Parisian nightlife stripped of its glamor, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec has no shortage of respect, but he’s not often considered within the greater arc of art history the way his contemporaries like Monet and Cézanne have been. Beth Wright aims to rectify that in Art History of the Post-Impressionists, one of two lectures to come at the Arlington Museum of Art. The talk is at 6:30pm at 201 W Main St, Arlington. Admission is free. Call 817-275-4600.

Thu 30 – A couple of years back, Fox made moves to make another movie of Guys and Dolls, with Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the main roles. That looks to be buried at the bottom of some executive’s inbox now, but you can still catch Artisan Center Theater’s production of Frank Loesser’s musical classic. The show runs thru Aug 29 at Belaire Theater, 420 E Pipeline Rd, Hurst. Tickets are $11-20. Call 817-284-1200.

Fri 31 – An art history professor at Williams College and a published authority on John Singer Sargent, Marc Simpson will give a lecture entitled “From Tantalizing Discord”: Sargent’s “Lady Agnew” and Its Ilk, placing the portrait now on exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum in the context of the American painter’s career. The lecture is at 6pm at 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-332-8451.

Sat 1 – This is the 20th aniversary of SceneShop, so the annual performance of sketches and playlets will be breaking out some old favorites as well as some new material. Also for the occasion, UTA drama professor Andrew Gaupp drops by to direct one of the segments. The show runs today thru Aug 8 at Arts Fifth Avenue, 1628 5th Av, FW. Tickets are $15. Call 817-923-9500.

Sun 2 – The Jerry Springer Show is still on, but it’s nowhere near as big a deal as it was in its late-1990s heyday. Yet Jerry Springer: The Opera has soldiered on. It debuted in London in 2003 and has since gained popularity by theater groups as a statement about our lurid fascination with the sort of people who appear on the show. Ohlook Productions’ staging of the regional premiere of this piece runs thru today at 1631 W Northwest Hwy, Grapevine. Tickets are $15. Call 817-421-2825.

Mon 3 – The trading deadline looms this week, and by the time the Houston Astros come to town tonight, we’ll know whether the Texas Rangers have decided to reload or rebuild. The team is in a curious place where adding a pricey veteran might actually be a move for the future. As for this year, the wild-card berth is still mathematically in reach, though the Rangers will have to climb over a lot of other teams to get it. The series runs today thru Aug 5 at Globe Life Park, 1200 Ballpark Way, Arlington. Tickets are $13-210. Call 817-273-5100.

Tue 4 – What’s it like to contract and survive the Ebola virus? Dr. Kent Brantly can tell you. The Abilene Christian graduate worked as a missionary in Liberia last year when he became sick. Now he and his wife Amber have published a memoir entitled Called for Life, and they will discuss their experiences at a book signing this evening. The authors appear at 6:30pm at Southside Church of Christ, 2101 Hemphill St, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-923-8276.
