It’s surprising that Mark Cuban, a guy who stars on reality TV, apparently wasn’t watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Khloe & Lamar several years ago.
If he’d been keeping up with those shows he would never have traded for Lamar Odom. Cuban recently called the Odom trade his worst personnel move ever.
But prior to that move, Odom was making it clear during his appearances on the Kardashian Krapfests that he was breaking bad. He seemed lethargic and conflicted about his upbringing, his hanger-on father, his marriage, and basketball. I’m embarrassed to admit I was watching those shows back then, but I saw enough of Odom’s personal life to be surprised that Cuban, or anyone watching the show, would trade for him.
Cuban gave up a protected first-round draft pick to get Odom, who’d been named as Sixth Man of the Year in 2011 with the LA Lakers. At the time, most sportswriters figured the Dallas Mavericks owner came out ahead in the deal. I guess no sportswriters were watching the Kardashian shows either.
Cuban should order his scouts to watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians, along with all the spinoffs — Kary & Koojo Take Sylvan Heights, Kim & Kris Take Botox, Bruce & Somebody With A K In Their Name Highlight Their Hair, and Kim & Kanye Piss Off The Northern Hemisphere Just By Being Themselves.
Odom is no longer on a Kardashian show and there’s little about sports in them anymore. But forcing the scouts to watch is fitting punishment for anyone who lauded Odom’s arrival in Dallas back then.
Better yet, he could ask you before he makes personnel decisions.
I could have told him to pass on Kris Humphries too.
