Remember when Oncor went into the beautiful woods on Oakhurst Scenic Drive and butchered them with chainsaws? Sure you do: I wrote about it a few weeks ago (“Too Much Power,” Feb. 11, 2015). I assume most of you frame my stories and hang them in your living rooms.

Those trees won’t be growing back any time soon (I’m referring to the trees butchered to make way for power lines, not the trees butchered to print our newspaper).

But some good news is coming down the pike.

Property owners, neighbors, city staff, and anyone else interested in spiffing up one of Fort Worth’s oldest neighborhoods can get their hands dirty and their minds clean on March 28. The city-sponsored Cowtown Great American Cleanup is bringing its elbow-grease to the Riverside area. The area has long been inching toward redevelopment around Race, Belknap, and Sylvania Streets, and along Riverside and Oakhurst Scenic Drives.

The area is just east of downtown and the Trinity River, and serves as a gateway for people entering the neighborhood.

The cleanup takes place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28.

Organizers encourage you to send a message to embracethestreet@gmail.com if you want to participate.
