After Christmas, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is bringing in two new films to show on its IMAX screen. The first is Interstellar, Christopher Nolan’s jumbo-sized and very science-friendly space epic. The movie’s ride into space and adventures on alien planets will be magnificent to watch on the extra-large screen, and the museum will be just the place to hold scientific discussions inspired by the film’s astrophysical theories and depictions of robots, black holes, and space travel.
The other film goes deep under the ocean instead of into space. Journey to the South Pacific travels to West Papua, the province of eastern Indonesia where the coral reefs have given rise to an unparalleled diversity of marine life, which includes some 10 percent of the world’s fish species. The documentary also tracks how humans interact with the sea creatures, though don’t expect it to get into the human rights abuses that the natives have suffered under Indonesian rule. If you’ve never seen a whale shark in the flesh, the large screen will be the next best way to give you a sense of the size of these huge marine creatures.
