The Italian composer Gioachino Rossini was constantly misspelling his own first name. He wasn’t very good at reading and writing, but he was excellent at composing coruscating comic operas, and he did it all before he retired at age 37 to devote his life to dining at the best restaurants in Europe. You can see his genius in his bubbling masterpiece The Barber of Seville. The Met’s encore broadcast is at 6:30pm at various theaters. Check Calendar for locations. Tickets are $16-24. Call 818-761-6100.

A juicy story done up in a minimalist style, Force Majeure is about a Swedish family that threatens to unravel when the father (Johannes Bah Kuhnke) momentarily panics during what only looks like a dangerous avalanche at a French ski resort. The scenery of the French Alps is juxtaposed nicely with the snippy family drama going on in the luxurious resort hotel. The film screens today thru Sun at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Tickets are $7-9. Call 817-738-9215.

The play runs Fri thru Dec 14 at 215 N Dooley St, Grapevine. Tickets are $12-15. Call 817-488-4842.
