The calendar says it’s still summer, but Fall Gallery Night is upon us anyway to herald the coming of autumn, inundating us with art and challenging us to make a complete meal out of amuse bouches.

The biggest opening this week figures to be Arlington Museum of Art’s Imprinting the West. Featuring 48 engravings and lithographs of the land the United States acquired in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, the exhibit boasts works by giants such as Frederic Remington, John James Audubon, and Albert Bierstadt.

These are well worth the trip to Arlington, but if you’re more into contemporary fare, stay closer to home.

Judy Youngblood’s paintings and an installation are on display at William Campbell, while 10 artists at Fort Worth Contemporary Arts pay tribute to Walker Evans and his seminal show of African-American art at MoMA in 1935. Fort Worth Community Arts Center holds its 12th annual Preservation Is the Art of the City exhibit, and Grackle Art Gallery unveils a show called Art Lives Long, whose title we can only assume is ironic, since the exhibit is up for only one night. Whether the art hangs for a few weeks or just a few hours, try not to miss anything.
