Local glass maker and environmentalist Don Young sent this gorgeous photo, described as a “happy harvest moon and autumnal equinox.” It was taken at Tandy Hills Park just east of downtown.

Unfortunately, he didn’t mention what the hell an equinox is, or a harvest moon for that matter.

I called noted scientist and researcher Dr. Wick E. Pedia, and he told me that an “equinox occurs twice a year when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor toward the sun… ,” and blah blah blah … dude never shuts up.

So then I called Neil Young (no relation to Don) to find out about harvest moons.
