THU ▪ 12

Here’s some excellent timing: Bass Hall is putting on Jersey Boys just a week before Clint Eastwood’s movie musical comes out in theaters. This way, fans can easily compare versions of the show about Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and discuss the relative merits of each one. The musical runs thru Sun at 555 Commerce St, FW. Tickets are $38.50-121. Call 817-212-4280.

FRI ▪ 13

Ilyasah Shabazz is one of the daughters of Malcolm X, and today she appears at The Dock Bookshop to autograph copies of the children’s book she wrote about her father’s early life, Malcolm Little. With Juneteenth coming up, it seems only right to have so many African-American-related events happening this week. The signing is at 7pm at 6647 Meadowbrook Dr, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-457-5700.

SAT ▪ 14

This year’s Trinity Shakespeare Festival gives us offerings from opposite ends of the Bard’s career. His early play The Comedy of Errors is a farce involving two sets of identical twins, while his valedictory to the theater The Tempest is set on an enchanted island ruled by a sorcerer in exile. The breadth of this author’s achievement can be seen in these two very different works. The festival runs thru Jun 29 at TCU’s Hays Theatre and Buschman Theatre, 2800 S University Dr, FW. Tickets are $10-25. Call 817-257-7602.

SUN ▪ 15

Jubilee Theatre goes in for contemporary edge with a four-day run of Black Boy Fly, Jordan E. Cooper’s play about an African-American Harvard law student who finds himself working as an intern for George Zimmerman’s defense in the Trayvon Martin case. This sounds like it could turn preachy if it’s handled poorly, but then again, you can’t complain about the pay-what-you-can price (a $5 donation is suggested). The play runs Thu-Sun at 506 Main St, FW. Call 817-338-4411.

MON ▪ 16

Whovians should gather at their local movie theaters over the next two days. After starring in tonight’s screening of a two-part episode of Dr. Who, David Tennant will also narrate tomorrow’s 3D nature documentary showing in the same theaters. One ticket covers both showings, so Tennant fans have extra reason to rejoice. The screenings are 7:30pm Mon-Tue at various locations. Check Calendar for theaters. Tickets are $15. Call 818-761-6100.

TUE ▪ 17

PianoTexas is in full swing this week, and this year’s festival seems to be going the mostly Mozart route. There’s an all-Mozart concert on Thursday, but tonight’s looks more promising, with 1991 Van Cliburn finalist Alexander Shtarkman playing a program that includes Liszt’s Fantasy on Two Themes from Don Giovanni, as well as some beautifully gossamer late-career pieces by Beethoven and Brahms. The concert is at 7:30pm at Ed Landreth Auditorium, 2800 S University Dr, FW. Tickets are $30. Call 817-257-7602.
