Samurai sought balance in every aspect of their lives, especially between military and cultural endeavors. Along with meticulously wrought suits of armor and swords, samurai also treasured finely detailed nature paintings and tea ceremony objects, everything embellished with artistic, literary, and spiritual symbols. Amphibian Stage Productions’ new play isn’t just about some twenty- and early-thirtysomethings seeking shelter in New York City. Hunting and Gathering is about the concept of home, and as this quick-witted comedy by playwright Brooke Berman suggests, home isn’t always what –– or where –– you think it is. Based on the true story of an artistically gifted boy who died in 1987 at the age of 8 of AIDS-related complications, The Yellow Boat is an inspirational tale about making the best of the time you have.
