Inspired by his mother, who taught cooking on Thai television and owned a restaurant in Bangkok, Argentinian conceptual artist Rirkrit Tiravanija has exhibited many food-related pieces –– for one of his first solo shows, in New York City in 1992, he cooked Thai food and served it to visitors. Throughout his career, he’s often relied on viewers to complete his work. A retrospective of his diverse oeuvre opens today at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. In We From Dallas, Dallas filmmaker Teddy Cool argues that Big D has been vital to the development of hip-hop throughout the country. Tracking the genre’s popularity in Dallas from KNON’s early days to Deep Ellum’s golden era (circa the 1990s) to today, the documentary features interviews with MCs, DJs, producers, graffiti artists, and more.
