WED ▪ 15

Other film series might start off the new year with something to ease us back into the regular routine. Not KinoMonda. TCU’s foreign film series plunges us into the deep end with Nostalghia, a 1983 movie by the austere, rigorous Andrei Tarkovsky. The Russian filmmaker had been forced out of his homeland, but turned this Italian-set late work into an exploration of the mind-set of Russian exiles. The film screens at 6:30pm at Sid Richardson Bldg, 2955 S University Dr, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-257-7292.

THU ▪ 16

All the Cumberbitches who didn’t turn out in force for The Fifth Estate might now gather at National Theatre Live’s broadcast of Frankenstein, Nick Dear’s new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel that stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. You may want to attend both days; Cumberbatch will play the monster and Miller will play Frankenstein on Wednesday, and then the actors will switch roles for the Thursday performances. The broadcasts are Wed-Thu at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Tickets are $10-18. Call 817-923-3012.

FRI ▪ 17

The upside of Blue Man Group’s get-up is that it cloaks the troupe’s members in anonymity and allows them to perform in several cities at once. The touring version of the wordless music, dance, and comedy show brings its particular shade of blue (uh, navy? midnight? pantone?!) to Bass Hall, 555 Commerce St, FW, this Fri-Sun. Tickets are $55-104.50. Call 817-212-4280.

SAT ▪ 18

Twenty years ago, Enchanted April was adapted into a decent movie, but Elizabeth von Arnim’s novel would seem even better suited for the stage. That’s what Theatre Arlington is betting on as it opens Matthew Barber’s theatrical adaptation of this book about post-World War I English housewives who stay at an Italian villa to gain some perspectives on their lives. The show runs Jan 17-Feb 2 at 305 W Main St, Arlington. Tickets are $5-19. Call 817-275-7661.

SUN ▪ 19

In a sense, we are all spinning, not only because we are on a planet that spins on an axis but because the electrons in the atoms that make up our bodies are also spinning. C.R. Smith Museum opens a new exhibit this week called Spin: The Science of Rotation, examining the reasons why so many objects see fit to engage in this activity. Bring a remedy for motion sickness. The show runs Jan 18-May 3 at 4601 Hwy 360, FW. Admission is $4-7. Call 817-967-1560.

MON ▪ 20

A meeting between a high school student and his principal turns into a tense criminal inquiry in The North Pool, Rajiv Joseph’s acclaimed play that touches on the bubbling stew of sex, death, money, and race that results when an angry kid of Arab descent gets called on the carpet by a white authority figure. Amphibian Productions’ staged reading runs Sun-Mon at 120 S Main St, FW. Tickets are $5-15. Call 817-923-3012.

TUE ▪ 21
