Just in time for Día de los Muertos comes Amon Carter Museum’s new show ¡Hombre! Prints by José Guadalupe Posada. The Mexican printmaker died 100 years ago this year and was famed for his highly detailed prints depicting various facets of life in Mexico. We can’t resist a play entitled William Shakespeare’s Land of the Dead. John Heimbuch’s comedy imagines the Bard of Avon, his actors, Queen Elizabeth I, and her courtiers holed up in the Globe Theater while a zombie plague rages through London in 1599. Another acclaimed guest conductor returns to Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra this weekend when Bulgarian maestro Rossen Milanov retakes the podium to conduct music by Beethoven and Debussy, as well as the splashy Improvisation and Toccata by fellow Bulgarian Pancho Vladigerov. “Hanskaska” is the Lakota word for a society of chiefs who earned the right to wear a sacred ceremonial shirt. Now it’s also the name of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame’s new exhibit, Hanskaska: The Shirt Wearers — Plains Indian Art of Cathy A. Smith. The show contains ornamented regalia from various Native American tribal leaders, including Chief Joseph and Crazy Horse, and runs Oct 24-Apr 27 at 1720 Gendy St, FW. Admission is $8-10. The Spectrum Chamber Music Series of Fort Worth returns for another season with a concert that begins with Franz Anton Hoffmeister’s Third “Solo” Quartet, a work that unusually gives the lead part to the string bass. The centerpiece of the recital will be Shostakovich’s Third String Quartet, which shows the Russian composer’s ability to join wildly different movements into a coherent whole.
