Addison-based Front Burner Restaurants has finally confirmed the long-standing rumor that its Velvet Taco restaurant will take over the space currently occupied by The Gold Standard. Last month, Gold Standard co-owner Brad Hensarling announced that the bar will will close Saturday. A spokeswoman for the upscale taco chain said the restaurant is shooting for January as an opening date.
John Franke, the corporate chef of Fork It Over Restaurants, a subsidiary of Front Burner will oversee the new place.
“We’re thrilled to open our second location, in the West 7th district of Fort Worth,” he said in a statement. “The culinary scene has significantly grown over the past few years, and we think the city will embrace our unique and innovative menu. We can’t wait to be a part of the Fort Worth dining and social scene and become a regular place for the locals and visitors.”
With Taco Heads, Revolver Taco Lounge, Gloria’s, La Familia, and Hacienda San Miguel already in the area, West 7th wasn’t exactly starving for fancy tacos. But Franke said local diners should expect anything but a traditional taco joint.
“You will never see your average traditional tacos on our menu, but you may find a tricked-up version of something familiar,” he said. “Everything is made-from-scratch, from the handmade tortillas to the chicken and corn that are slow-roasted in-house. Our guests wait each week to see what new and inspired ‘WTF’ taco our chefs come up with.”
