Lauren Gunderson’s comedy Exit, Pursued by a Bear takes its title from a stage direction in Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, and it begins with a battered wife in the mountains of Georgia duct-taping her abusive husband to his recliner and strewing venison all around him. That’s all we have to say. What more do you need, really? The play runs Aug 15-Sep 14 at Circle Theater, 230 W 4th St, FW. Tickets are $10-30. Call 817-877-3040.

This weekend marks your last chance to catch Ohlook Performing Arts Center’s acclaimed production Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. The musical comically casts our nation’s seventh president as an emo rock star who makes genocidal decisions to expand American territory at the expense of the natives. The show runs thru Sat at 1631 W Northwest Hwy, Grapevine. Tickets are $15. Call 817-421-2825.

Today marks the last installment of Fort Worth Foodie’s Summer Brews Tour, pairing beers with bites of food at various eateries. The event is a walking tour, but the stops are close enough together that the heat won’t be a major issue. In any case, a nice cold beer will help you deal with the summer. Space is limited, though, so reserve your spot. The tour begins at 3pm at Rodeo Goat, 2836 Bledsoe Dr, FW. Registration is $45.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus unveiled its new show Dragons in 2012, during the Chinese calendar’s Year of the Dragon. It is now the Year of the Snake, but Fort Worth audiences will still get their first look at Dragons during the circus’ annual visit this week. The circus runs Wed-Sun at Fort Worth Convention Center, 1111 Houston St, FW. Tickets are $15-100. Call 800-745-3000.

The unexpectedly surging Texas Rangers continue their chase for a playoff spot as they take on the Houston Astros. The Rangers’ intrastate rival currently sports the worst record in the major leagues, though their new management (and this year’s resurgence by long-irrelevant teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Kansas City Royals) could give the ’Stros hope for the future. The series runs Aug 19-21 at Rangers Ballpark, 1901 Rd to Six Flags, Arlington. Tickets are $11-150. Call 817-273-5100.

Think spelling bees are only for middle-school kids? Dan’s Silverleaf will prove you wrong tonight with its Buzz Bee, so named because the participants will be progressively drunker as the competition goes on, which will really challenge their ability to correctly spell “orthoclase” and “eleemosynary.” The event starts at 8pm at 103 Industrial Dr, Denton. Contestants’ entry fee is $5. Call 940-320-2000.
