One of the largest collections of African-American art ever shown in North Texas will hang at The Arlington Museum of Art now through late August.
Featuring works on loan from a private collector by such legends at Jacob Lawrence, Charles White, Aaron Douglas, and Richmond Barthé, Harlem Renaissance: A Celebration of Art & Culture is being held in conjunction with a show curated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibits Service. William H. Johnson: An American Modern features 20 of Johnson’s works of varying media, including painting, drawing, and photography.
The shows are up now as part of a Juneteenth celebration that will expand beyond the museum’s walls. A day of poetry readings and jazz, a Night at the Apollo competition, and a lecture series will round out the celebratory and commemorative festivities. Tickets will be available at the door or online at arlingtonmuseum.org.
