The Empty Bowls fund-raiser comes around every year, but somehow it never gets old, the idea of eating free food prepared by the city’s best chefs while giving to a cause as worthy as the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Dallas Black Dance Theatre comes over to our side of the county line this evening, but the title of the company’s show, Dancing Beyond Borders, makes it sound as if they’re a troupe from some faraway place instead of just over in Dallas. It’s always exciting when Jubilee Theatre trots out something new, and this week it’s Trav’lin — The New 1930s Harlem Musical. The revue is based on the life and career of songwriter J.C. You’ll gain a new appreciation for the distinction between commas and semicolons in Margaret Edson’s Wit. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a terminally ill English lit professor who confronts her demise with her knowledge of John Donne’s poetry never fails to overpower you on the stage; one wishes this hadn’t been Edson’s only stage work to date.
