Balancing philosophical questions with wacky anachronistic humor (including a hilarious Percy Sledge song that comes out of nowhere), Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile remains a pure expression of the distinctive comic sensibility that helped make its author a Hollywood star. Just as Monty Python and the Holy Grail ruined all other movies about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Monty Python’s Spamalot has done a good deal to ruin Camelot, Lerner and Loewe’s musical take on the story. Languishing in obscurity as a nearly forgotten 1967 musical film, Thoroughly Modern Millie found a second life in 2002 as a Broadway musical, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical along with several others. The Amon Carter Museum unveils two new photography shows to capture your attention.
