Michael B. Jordan stars in Just Mercy at LSFF.

One thing to watch about the latest edition of the Lone Star Film Festival is a new venue. The annual bash still uses the AMC Palace as its home base, but now other films will be shown in the Fort Worth Central Public Library instead of Four Day Weekend Theater. The two venues are still within walking distance of each other, and we’ll see whether the library’s facilities can outdo the ones on Houston Street.

Oh, yes. There are films to see, too. The big get for this festival is Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life, about a real-life Austrian farmer who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II as a conscientious objector, but there’s plenty of other stuff. What Doesn’t Kill Us is a comedy about zombies brought back from the undead and trying to re-integrate into society, while Chris Hanna’s documentary Now or Never: A Tony Romo Story recommends itself to Cowboys fans. People looking for an eye on the movie industry’s future will want to see Steve Cauthen’s documentary Netflix vs. the World. The best item here might be Just Mercy, a socially conscious drama by upcoming Marvel director Destin Daniel Cretton, starring Michael B. Jordan and Brie Larson as Alabama lawyers trying to get a prisoner (Jamie Foxx) off Death Row. Last year’s festival had the future Best Picture Oscar winner. Might this year repeat?

The Lone Star Film Festival runs Wed-Sun at AMC Palace, 220 E 3rd St, FW, and Fort Worth Central Public Library, 500 W 3rd St, FW. Tickets are $15-600. Call 817-924-6000.
