Wednesday 26 – If you’ve read Victor Hugo’s novel, you’ll notice that the characters’ moral weight is always reflected in how good-looking they are. In a perverse way, the musical version of Les Misérables is faithful to that part of the book, with the heroes receiving all the best and most beautiful music to sing. Thursday 27 – If you missed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse last week at Levitt Pavilion, not to worry. It’s also screening tonight at Sundance Square. Friday 28 – Young pianists from Lithuania, China, Hungary, and here in America will perform single recital items at tonight’s PianoTexas. There will be a good dose of Debussy here in Estampes, L’isle joyeuse, and selections from Suite Bergamasque, but you’ll also hear two masterpieces by Chopin: his Fourth Scherzo and Third Piano Sonata. Saturday 29 – This afternoon, the Apex Arts League presents its second annual Grand Recital, in which local youths receive professional training and a concert debut in exchange for a registration fee. Sunday 30 – Don’t confuse Rainbow Bright with the series of dolls that came out in the 1980s. This burlesque performance up in Denton marks the end of Pride Month, with seven drag performers taking the stage. The afternoon event also includes a brunch with French toast and eggs Florentine. Monday 1 – Hayao Miyazaki only wrote the script for the 1995 anime film Whisper of the Heart, but Yoshifumi Kondô’s rendition of this story about a Japanese schoolgirl and a magical cat is still acclaimed as one of Studio Ghibli’s classics.
