Hiro’s Table plays at Thin Line Festival this weekend.

This past January, we wrote about Denton Black Film Festival enjoying its first edition in the Alamo Drafthouse in that city (“My BFF,” Jan 23). This weekend, it’s Thin Line Festival’s turn to do the same. The documentary film festival to our north celebrates its 12th running this year, and the new theater will give this event a new shine.

Nature documentary lovers will find plenty to see this year. The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos is a British film that explores the life cycle of the odd pink birds, while Kifaru follows the lives of two Kenyan workers who start their jobs caring for the rhinos on their land preserve and This Mountain Life concerns a mother and daughter who go hiking together in the mountains of British Columbia. Elsewhere, An American Story tracks the extraordinary career of U.S. Rep. Norman Mineta, Well Groomed goes in depth with people who groom show dogs for competitions, Midnight Traveler is one film director’s chronicle of his flight from Afghanistan with his family, and Hiro’s Table is a record of the demise of a much-loved mom-and-pop sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. As always, music will be part of the festival, performed at various venues around town. Also as always, you won’t beat the price of a single ticket to any film.

Thin Line Festival runs Thu-Sun at Campus Theatre, 214 W Hickory St, Denton and Alamo Drafthouse, 3220 Town Center Tr, Denton. Admission is free. Call 888-893-4560.
