PlayRadioPlay, the nom de musique of 19-year-old electro-pop singer-songwriter Dan Hunter, is taking an unusual though creative approach to recording his next album (actually two albums: one full of B-sides, the other of new originals). He’s soliciting funds from fans. In return, they will be credited as executive producers. Is young Dan suffering from Funds-‘r’-low disease?

PRP2No, he says on www.myspace.com/playradioplay, “I’m not doing this because I am completely broke. I’m doing this because when it comes down to deciding how much money I’ll be able to spend on marketing and how many physical copies I’ll be able to press, the amount of money in my bank account is a deciding factor. I’m also doing this simply because it’s a cool idea that I would take part in if one of my favorite bands did it.” Hunter started taking donations about a day ago. “It’s going very well,” he writes. All that’s required to donate is a credit card (or you can send cash to DH Entertainment LLC, P.O. Box 845, Aledo, TX 76008). One fan allegedly told Hunter, “You’re an asshole. The economy’s in the shitter, and you’re asking for money?!” In response, Hunter simply says, “If you are not able to afford making this donation, then don’t do it.” Minimum donation is $10. … Sky Eats Airplane and frontman Jerry Roush have parted ways but are still on “good terms,” according to SEA. Currently in the process of writing new material, the Fort Worth nu-metal outfit is actively looking for a new lead singer — screamo frontmen (and -women) who’ve always dreamed of belting for a nationally distributed band, here’s your chance. E-mail singforSEA@gmail.com for more information. Keep in mind, SEA says, “that we are looking for someone who is talented at singing first and foremost.” In other words, looks will take you only so far. … We still have copies of our 12th Annual Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards comp CDs for sale. Proceeds from the $5 cost benefit the Tarrant Area Food Bank, this year’s charity sponsor. E-mail your snail-mail address to associate editor Anthony Mariani at anthony.mariani@fwweekly.com, and we’ll get a copy out to you pronto. The track list includes The Orbans‘ “Were Her,” Rivercrest Yacht Club‘s “The Tuck,” The Burning Hotels‘ “Where’s My Girl?,” Brandin Lea‘s “When They Come For You,” AwkQuarius‘ “Let’s Hit the Town,” and many more. Copies of previous years’ comp CDs also are available, with songs by the cut*off, The Theater Fire, Mount Righteous, Stumptone, and more. Over the past several years, we’ve raised almost $7,000 for our assorted charity sponsors. … Admit it. You love The Priest. “Breaking the Law“? “Hot Rockin’“? “Heading Out to the Highway“?! Gimme a break! Those songs fucking rawk. And if you wanna see ’em performed live by the band that wrote ’em, easily one of the top three hair-metal bands of all time (the other two would be Iron Maiden and The Scorpions), then e-mail your snail-mail address to Mariani, and that jerk’ll ship out two tickets to you for Judas Priest’s Thu., Aug. 13 show at Nokia Theatre (1001 Performance Pl, Grand Prairie, 214-373-8000). And, yes, “leather-lung’d” Rob Halford will be there and in full butch-biker regalia. A David Coverdale-fronted Whitesnake will open.
