Local playwright T.J. Walsh wrote a play about 19th-century Swedish playwright August Strindberg and his tumultuous problems with mental illness, unorthodox religious beliefs, state censorship, and relationships with women called Born on a Sunday. It was well-received when it was staged at TCC’s Northwest Campus, and now TCU is putting it on. The play runs thru Fri at Hays Theatre, 2800 S University Dr, FW. Tickets are $10-25. Symphony Arlington’s season this year is all about Spanish music, which tends not to attract the same attention as classical music from other parts of Europe. This evening Robert Carter Austin conducts Falla’s The Three-Cornered Hat Suite and the Overture from Los Esclavos Felices, one of the few surviving parts of an opera written by the short-lived Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, who was 13 at the time he composed it. If you can’t wait for TBT’s version of The Nutcracker to get here in December, you can drop by Will Rogers Memorial Center for Ballet Frontier of Texas’ staging of this seasonal work. There’s still time to catch Theatre Wesleyan’s world premiere of Walter Wykes’ black comedy Certificate of Death. The play takes place in a world where people are executed after receiving a certificate in the mail, and it’s about two guys who panic when they receive their certificates. Until the end of the year, the Fort Worth Library is running a series called The Victorian Novel on Film, screening a series of movies based on 19th-century English novels that range from excellent (Roger Michell’s 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion) to terrible (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows). This week they’ll show last year’s quite good version of Jane Eyre. The screening is at 2pm at 500 W 3rd St, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-871-7701.

Artisan Center Theater’s holiday play The Forgotten Carols opens this week. Michael McLean’s musical is about a humorless nurse assigned to care for a patient who claims to be 2,000 years old and present for Christ’s birth. Now’s a good time to head to the Dallas Museum of Art for their The Legacy of the Plumed Serpent in Mexico exhibit as it heads into its last week. This show contains objects of art depicting the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, including codices, textiles, mosaics, and gold. The show runs thru Nov 25 at 1717 N Harwood St, Dallas. Admission is $5-10.
