For once, it’s not Joe Sears and Jaston Williams performing in Greater Tuna. Instead, David Coffee and Jonathan Beck Reed will assume all the roles in this venerable show about the residents of Texas’ third-smallest town. The show runs Thu-Sun at Casa Mañana Theater, 3101 W Lancaster Av, FW. Tickets are $40-65. Call 817-332-2272.

FRI ▪ 24

As part of a cultural exchange with the Moscow Film Festival, the Modern will show four Russian films this weekend at its New Russian Cinema Film Festival. Among the highlights are Andrei Zvyagintsev’s well-received chiller Elena and Sergei Loban’s splashy musical Chapiteau-Show, a 207-minute extravaganza that will screen in two parts on Saturday. The festival runs Fri-Sun at Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Tickets are $6.50-8.50. Call 817-738-9215.

SAT ▪ 25

This Saturday, the Thin Line Film Festival expands into a monthly series of documentaries screening in Denton. The series, which runs through the end of the year, begins with Wish Me Away, a documentary about country singer Chely Wright and her struggles with coming out of the closet. The film shows at 7pm at Denton Fine Arts Theater, 115 N Elm St, Denton. Tickets are $8. Call 888-893-4560.

SUN ▪ 26

If you’re a fan of the Tuna hijinks (see Thursday blurb), you should check out the production of Around the World in 80 Days going on at Stage West. Adapted from Jules Verne’s novel about a 19th-century English gentleman who circumnavigates the globe on a bet, Mark Brown’s theatrical version has only five actors portraying 39 different characters. The show runs Aug 23-Sep 30 at 821 W Vickery St, FW. Tickets are $15-30. Call 817-784-9378.

MON ▪ 27

The same weekend that Russian movies play at the Modern (see Friday blurb), Artisan Center Theater goes Russian, too, with its new production of Fiddler on the Roof. Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s musical was a talisman of Jewish pride when it came out, but its themes of holding onto tradition in the face of change are universal. The show runs Aug 24-Oct 6 at Belaire Theater, 420 E Pipeline Rd, Hurst. Tickets are $9-18. Call 817-284-1200.

TUE ▪ 28

Arlington Museum of Art’s current show, HeARTbeat, may have a tortured title, but it’s an excellent way to lift the summer doldrums. The exhibit features 12 artists in various media and styles, ranging from Ann Hardy’s still lifes to Suzanne McNeill-Sparks’ figure paintings influenced by Gustav Klimt. The show runs thru Sep 21 at 201 W Main St, Arlington. Admission is free. Call 817-275-4600.
