The Fort Worth City Council’s only African-American woman, Kathleen Hicks, will say goodbye and relinquish her seat at Tuesday night’s meeting.
In 2005, Hicks became the youngest woman ever elected to the city council. She stepped aside to run for Congress earlier this year. (She didn’t make the runoff.)
After Hicks says goodbye on Tuesday, Kelly Allen Gray will take the oath of office and become another young, strong, black woman to represent southeast Fort Worth.
District 8 has been represented by an African-American for several decades.
