Hip Pocket Theatre’s season this year features a string of literary adaptations from sources ranging from Herman Melville to Will Eisner. They start the season this weekend, with Tom Sawyer (a banjo commedia), whose subtitle should tell you everything you need to know about the spin Johnny Simons intends to take on Mark Twain’s novel. Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s pop performers are getting younger: LeAnn Rimes and Ben Folds visited in the spring, and now the summer Concerts in the Garden will feature the likes of Vertical Horizon, Reckless Kelly, and Marc Broussard. It’s nice to have guest performers who aren’t pitched at the seniors. Tonight’s concert features Old 97’s. The concerts run Fri-Sun at Fort Worth Botanic Garden, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, FW. Cowboys Stadium continues to hold high-profile soccer matches in the summer, and this afternoon a friendly Mexico vs. Brazil match will be played there. The Mexicans are effectively the home team, but even their fans will be curious to see the next generation of Brazilian offensive talent: scoring machine Alexandre Pato, Mohawk-sporting winger Neymar, and Hulk — look up his picture and you’ll know why he’s so nicknamed. The Cook Children’s Recording Studio Project is a plan to allow patients to learn more about their illnesses and hospitalization, as well as view and even create programs. The Music & Arts Foundation Golf Classic is a tournament to support this project, followed by a concert by Stoney Larue. The tournament starts at 3pm at Cowboys Golf Club, 1600 Fairway Dr, Grapevine.
