The little dog with the funny teeth and sweet personality had become the unofficial mascot of the Tandy Hills Natural Area in recent years, and she’s a familiar sight at the Prairie Fest events.
Debora Young adopted the dog from an animal shelter in 2007 and took it home. She and her husband, Don, live across the street from Tandy Hills. They founded Prairie Fest, which has introduced thousands of Fort Worth residents to the rolling hill, wildflowers, and natural prairie landscape of Tandy Hills.
“When Debora first brought her home I was upset because I didn’t want a dog,” Don Young said. “I was still heartbroken over another dog that had died. But Olive stole my heart real fast the way she flew above the bluestem grass at Tandy Hills looking for rabbits.”
The Youngs often let Olive romp around the gorgeous Tandy Hills, and she was last seen at 11 a.m. on May 13.
Olive is a small, black , terrier mix that weighs about 20 pounds. She is particularly fond of playing with children, and the Youngs wonder if a family took Olive home since she wasn’t wearing a collar.
Olive is implanted with a microchip, but the Youngs had removed Olive’s collar to give her a bath and forgotten to put it back on before letting her outside to play.
“She really is special and it’s killing me and Debora to be without her,” Young said. “Olive sometimes chases rabbits at Tandy Hills for two hours but always comes home, but this time we think someone grabbed her Sunday when she was outside.”
