Not a bad weekend for music coming up, if you like flashy guitar pickers, nostalgic local rock music, and dandy songwriting.

Davin James, a monster on acoustic guitar, will be cranking up the amps at White Elephant Saloon on Friday. The Elephant is always an excellent venue to see somebody up close and personal.

People growing up in Fort Worth during the 1990s still talk about seeing The Toadies jam around town before Rubberneck (1994) and its smash hit “Possum Kingdom” made them famous for awhile.

The record label shunned the band’s subsequent album, but The Toadies kept on rocking throughout the 1990s. By 2001, however, they’d hopped off into the horizon.

Now that lost album, Feeler, is finally being released, and The Toadies are back on stages, with a stop Saturday night at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas. Also on the bill is another kick-ass local band, The Burning Hotels.

If you don’t feel like driving to Dallas, you can stay closer to home on Saturday night and catch a cool show at Billy Bob’s Texas — songwriter extraordinaire Bruce Robison is hooking up with Cody Canada (Cross Canadian Ragweed) for an acoustic night at the ginormous honkytonk.
