Cora “The Thunder From Down Under” Bell, take a bow!

This previous blog post discussed Texas women who are leading the way when it comes to keeping the oil and gas industry honest in the Barnett Shale.

One of those women, Sharon Wilson, sent me an email reminding us not to overlook Cora Bell, who moved here from Australia, settled down, and then began fighting to protect her neighborhood after a well site was proposed there.

”She did an amazing amount of work to call attention to the proposed well site that eventually turned into a possible 20 wells in a very tight space in her neighborhood,” Wilson said. “She went door-to-door with fliers and got several doors slammed in her face but she kept on. She contacted every ‘expert’ she could find and got them to speak at council meetings. She arranged an informational meeting for the community that had about 300 to 400 in attendance.”

Wilson describes Bell’s actions as “saving our planet one yard, neighborhood and community at a time.”
