Erykah Badu is a marketing genius. Who knew getting worldwide press coverage for her new video and appearing on national TV was as easy as stripping at Dealey Plaza?
Badu is facing a fine up to $500 for disorderly conduct. That’s chickenfeed considering what that measly few hundred dollars is buying – notoriety, fame, fans, CD sales, an appearance in Blotch.
I’d never heard of this singer prior to her on-camera strip tease at the place where JFK was gunned down in 1963. Now I know more about her than I do my mail carrier, auto mechanic, doctor, and librarian combined.
Badu appeared on “The Wanda Sykes Show” over the weekend and – how’s this for spin? – said stripping down in public was her homage to the slain president.
“My point was grossly misunderstood all over America,” she said. “JFK is one of my heroes, one of the nation’s heroes. John F. Kennedy was a revolutionary. He was not afraid to butt heads with America, and I was not afraid to show America my butt-naked truth.”
The “butt-naked” part of her message was clear; the “truth” part a little more difficult to ascertain.
But I suppose it sounds better than, “I was not afraid to resort to the world’s oldest profession to make some cash.”
Seriously? You LIVE in Fort Worth area and have never heard of Badu? Don’t keep up with musical art much, do you? 😉
On the real, society needs to be more concerned with hunger, drugs, lack of education in public schools and violence against children than it does with the few who witnessed Badu’s rump.
