Almost heaven, West Virginia — unless you’re a gas driller.
The Wetzel Chronicle reports that Chesapeake Energy employees found a dummy hanging from a tree with a noose around its neck in Wetzel County, WV.
“Go away drillers or you will die” was written on the dummy’s chest.
I don’t encourage violence or threats of violence toward drillers. The fight should be in the state legislature, not the streets.
But frankly I’ve been surprised that the Barnett Shale hasn’t prompted more aggressive protests like in West Virginia and New York. During the past five years I’ve talked to a bunch of really, really pissed off people who feel they’ve been assaulted by the gas industry and are at their wit’s end.
Texans consider property rights as sacred, and don’t suffer assaults on their homes gladly.
