For about 25 years, either Coors Lights or Bud Lights have been my main thirst quenchers.

It’s time to find a new brand.

An article in The Wall Street Journal says Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors will increase their prices because…well, because they can.

Eight of every 10 beers sold in the United States last year originated from one of those companies, and the price increases reflect their “growing clout,” the article said.

Beer sales have been a tad flat this year, but both companies reported nice profits because of previous price increases. Now they’re dipping back into the till.

It’s the Wal-Martization of the booze industry.

I purposely pass up Wal-Mart when I’m food shopping and instead head a mile farther down the road to go to a smaller grocery story.

It’s my feeble gesture at shooting the finger at a huge corporation that is squeezing out the little guy and crushing competition in towns across America.

Strangely, I’ve never applied the same philosophy to beer.

But from now on I’m going to have to pass by the Bud and Coors and go for the…Keystone?

No wait, they’re owned by Coors.

Michelob? Nope, they’re with Anheuser-Busch.

Rolling Rock? Ditto.

Rahr Blonde, I’m finally coming home to you.

Any other light domestic beer suggestions from you lushes out there?

  1. I like Fat Tire and Shiner Bock. Any of the Rahr varieties are good too. I especially like Rahr Bucking Bock, but it is a seasonal only.

    Prosit!
