Our 13th (14th?) annual Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards are right around the corner. Before the 40-plus-local-band festival –– Sun., June 27, in the West 7th Street corridor –– we’re going to go into the studio. As we have in the past, we will be putting out a compilation CD of select nominees’ music. Instead of using songs from existing recordings, however, we’re going to use songs recorded live at Eagle Audio this weekend: Sat., May 1, and Sun., May 2. Artists slated to perform/record include Browningham (Nathan Brown), Chatterton, The Dangits, Dove Hunter, Fate Lions, Clint Niosi, Rivercrest Yacht Club, Whiskey Folk Ramblers, and Christian L. Williams. And maybe two or three more.

Register here for your chance to swing by the studio, hang out, indulge in some complimentary finger-foods and (cold, frosty) beverages, and contribute post-song applause. (Winners must be at least 18 and will be required to wear their grownup-pants throughout the entire sessions. Tomfoolery, drunkenness, or general annoying behavior as determined by Eagle Audio, the bands, or me will not be tolerated.)

The point of the CD every year is to promote the vibrant 817 music scene, and all proceeds from the sale of the discs ($5 each) go toward our charity sponsor. (We’ve yet to determine one for 2010.) Last year via CD sales, we raised about $3,000 for SafeHaven of Tarrant County, a shelter for abused and neglected women and children. Our radio sponsor is KXT/91.7-FM.

  1. If the Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards hasn’t selected a charity yet, I’d like to suggest the Fort Worth charity, Summer Santa. Its website is http://www.summersanta.org. Summer Santa helps a lot of needy children in our area with school supplies, school clothes, medical checkups and a chance to go to summer camp.
