One of Fort Worth’s and all of North Texas’ most trailblazing and significant experimental bands is performing a reunion gig of sorts tonight in Denton. Formed in 1995 by Sam Ward and the late Doug Ferguson (Frankie Teardrop, Yeti), Ohm was a project to which multiple players contributed, including two local musicians who would soon become permanent members, Nathan Brown and the late Chris Forest. Underground Railroad’s Bill Pohl, The Theater Fire’s Don Feagin, Mark Cook (Mirror People, Yanari, 99 Names of God, Hentai Improvising Orchestra, others), and jazz impresario Dave Karnes were just some of the guys who sat in with the band. In a live setting, the musicians often set up their instruments in different parts of the room, forcing audiences to sit in the middle. The band was forced to dissolve in 2001. Tonight’s show, by Ward and Brown, will be Ohm’s first in nine years.
Brown also will perform as Browningham, his solo project. The show starts at 9 p.m. at Six Coffee House (424 Bryan St. at Scripture, 940-484-2786).
ALSO: Tonight at 7 p.m. at McDavid Studio (301 E. 5th St. in Sundance Square, 817-212-4300), the One O’Clock Lab Band will perform some Christmas-ified jazz. The UNT project’s most recent album, Lab 2009, has been nominated for two Grammys: Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album and Best Instrumental Composition (for “Ice-Nine” by director Steve Wiest).
