One of Fort Worth’s most influential hardcore bands, Suiciety, has gotten back together to play two shows: one in Austin (at Lovejoy’s Tap Room and Brewery), the other here in the Fort, at Lola’s Sixth (2736 W 6th St, by the Cultural District), tomorrow night (Friday), with Fort Worth’s The Great Tyrant and another influential though more recently disbanded Fort Worth hardcore outfit that’s gotten back together (even if only temporarily), Garuda, who will join Suiciety in Austin. (Suiciety’s Frank Cervantes went on to form the legendary local dub group Sub Oslo, whose drummer, Quincy Holloway, went on to become part of the critically lauded Dove Hunter.)

If you’ve seen the show posters around town, you’ve probably noticed the visage of Chad Percy (a.k.a. Cadillac Fraf), a local folk singer-songwriter who passed away recently and who played with Suiciety frontman Linc Campbell, in the Mockingbird Cartel, and also was one of Garuda’s biggest supporters and dearest friends. The show is a benefit for his family, who still is dealing with his hospital bills.

After the Wreck Room closed almost two years ago now to make way for urban redevelopment, the crazy-ass touring bands that regularly played the 10-year-old rock club on West 7th Street looked like they probably wouldn’t be coming back –– the Wreck was the only club in town that had just the right crazy-ass vibe to suit them. But San Fran’s Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Austin’s Invincible Czars are two bands from back in the day that haven’t let a little thing like the death of their F-Dub homebase keep them away. They still play town, thanks undoubtedly to Longhorn Saloon, Lola’s Saloon Sixth, and Lola’s Saloon Stockyards owner Brian Forella, who used to run the Wreck and clearly appreciates Sleepytime’s and the Czars’ fans here. Both bands, along with Denton’s Shaolin Death Squad –– another Wreck regular –– are playing the Longhorn (121 W Exchange Av, Stockyards) on Saturday. And remember: This Sunday, The King Bucks are starting their every-Sunday-night residency at Lola’s Stockyards (a couple of doors down from the Longhorn). For free tix: same deal as above.

Tomorrow (Friday) at Embargo (210 E 8th St, in SoDo) is the second annual Palabrazos Festival of Literary Performance. Slated to perform are locals Natasha Carrizosa and Joaquin Zihuatanejo, plus two spoken-word poets from Santa Fe –– Mary Melisse Mier and Angelo Jaramillo –– and Austin’s Da’Shade Moonbeam. Part of the festival also will include three video poems will be screened. For more info, contact organizer Tammy Gomez at tammygomexican@yahoo.com.
