Remember last year when a record drought and devastating wildfires ravaged the countryside?

Well, apparently that’s not good for parks.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department budget is battered and officials are seeking help.

This nonprofit organization stepped up this week and donated $500,000.

“There has never been a greater need for private support of our parks,” said Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation board chairman Kelly Thompson.

A good way for everyone to support state parks is just to go out and visit them — visitors’ fees pay for about half of the operating costs.
