JERRY PICKS A REAL WINNER.
JERRY PICKS A WINNER.

Dallas Cowboys fans are united in their admiration for Drew Pearson and Larry Allen and can’t wait to see them added to the Ring of Honor on Sunday.

Owner Jerry Jones’ third pick, Charles Haley, not so much.

Haley was by most accounts a rude, off-putting, divisive jerk with a penchant for masturbating at the oddest moments.

Haley’s social lapses are part of what made him a ferocious defensive end, and on talent alone he deserves plenty of awards. I loved watching him play. He’d take a low angle, deliver a forearm shiver, and blow past his blocker with amazing speed on his way to sacking another quarterback.

But that doesn’t warrant induction into a ring noted for its “honor.”

Honor goes beyond sacks and stats. It reflects character. Respect. Integrity.

Who’s next for the Ring? Lance Rentzel?

But here’s the real kicker — Haley played more seasons for the San Francisco 49ers than he did in Dallas.

And after he left the Cowboys, he went back and finished his career with the 49ers, which if you’ll remember was our ARCH FRICKIN’ RIVAL back then.

Put him the Hall of Fame. Elect him president for all I care. But don’t put him in the Ring of Honor.

  1. So even though Haley suffered and still suffers from being bi-polar which would have explained his attitude and aggression toward other people at that point of time not being treated for. He should not be inducted in the Ring Of Honor. His on the field athleticism at defensive end changed the way alot of ends play now. In my opinion I don’t think the defensive line wouldn’t have been as strong as it was if it wasn’t for Haley. Yes he played for the 49’s, he also was the defensive coordinator for the Lions. Deion didn’t play in Dallas he entire career either but made significant plays and contributions to the team. So he shouldn’t be inducted. But when Emmitt left and was inducted no one said a thing.

  2. It is bad enough Drew Pearson had to share this overdue honor at all. I was very surprised to see Larry Allen inducted. I agree with you, Mr. Prince.
