There’s been lots of talk about the Dallas Cowboys playing the New York Jets in an NFL prime time Sunday night game on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 bombings. Pregame, halftime, and postgame will be sprinkled with 9/11 memories and tributes.

There’s also been talk about the possibility of a terrorist attack in New York on the anniversary date.

What I haven’t heard discussed is the possibility of an attack at the game.

The FBI says al Qaeda might be eager to make a big statement on the symbolic 9/11 anniversary to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden and to “reassert the group’s relevance.”

What better way to accomplish that than to set off a bomb and kill innocent people at the most watched TV event of the day? America’s Team…in New York…on the anniversary…millions watching… .

I’ve never figured out how killing innocent people translates into heroism. But, for a terrorist group, a prime time bombing would certainly qualify as revenge and a reassertion of relevance.

So, for this week only, I’m not that interested in whether the Cowboys win or lose, only that they get home safely.

But a win would be nice too.

When blogging on the Cowboys in the past, this is the time I would usually work in a photo of Jessica Simpson wearing a Tony Romo uniform. Why? Well, there are those that look at a Simpson photo and ask “why?” I look at a Simpson photo and ask “why not?”

Unfortunately, Simpson doesn’t date any Cowboys anymore…she’s not associated with the team in any way…but when she dated Tony Romo she was accused of bringing bad luck to the team…so maybe I could go with a joke about her being a terrorist threat if she showed up at the game…but that’s in poor taste considering the anniversary…but maybe…oh, what the hell, here’s the damn photo:

  1. Only rednecks from Texas still refer to the Cowboys as “America’s Team”. Everyone else acknowledged the team’s irrelevance over a decade ago.

  2. That’s strange, I have a foggy memory about reading a story…when was it? Oh yeah, it was YESTERDAY, about Forbes magazine listing the Cowboys as the most valuable franchise in the NFL.

Read it and weep redneck: http://nydn.us/pGyWsV

  3. The value if the team, which reflects sales of hats, shirts, etc across the nation, makes the Cowboys America’s team. It’s really that simple.

When the Browns become more valuable, they’ll be America’s Team of choice.

  4. These bills fans who are living in a fantasy world claiming the cowboys are not americas team are disrespecting the great nation of the United States of America by their attacks on the sports team that is the beacon and symbol worldwide of everything decent and good that our nation stands for

  5. certainly like your website but you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very bothersome to tell the truth nevertheless I’ll definitely come back again.

  6. Got an example? I don’t see any problems on this post.

I’m not saying that words and grammar don’t get mangled at times on Blotch because our blog copy is unedited. It goes straight from the writer’s brain to the blog, which is exciting but also rife with grammatical danger. Stories printed in the hard copy of Fort Worth Weekly are edited at least twice by a copy editor and managing editor. The blog is a rebellious beast.

By the way, you might try editing your own posts for grammar issues.
