A guy named Lou in Arlington called this morning to express his shock and dismay at seeing President Barack Obama pictured with a noose around his neck on the Cowboys Dancehall web site.
Lou is from Baltimore and new to Arlington, and he was looking on the internet for clubs to go check out. The Cowboys Dancehall website has a gallery of “Party Pics” that includes scenes from last year’s Halloween party. That’s where he saw the offensive photo.
I didn’t upload the photo because it is marked as copyrighted, but you can go here to see it.
“That’s way too reminiscent of 1930s lynchings for me,” he said.
All these years after the civil rights movement, Lou was shocked that a club would “feel so comfortable leaving this on their web site.”
I called Cowboys Dancehall and asked for the manager but he wasn’t in yet. However, I talked to John Denson, who serves as controller, and he didn’t feel the least bit comfortable about the photo.
“I wasn’t aware of it,” he said. “I agree it’s not the kind of thing we should be posting. To me it’s crossing the line. I”m going to look into it and see about getting it removed.”
Denson meant what he said — the photo was removed within the hour.
In this day and age, noose plus African American plus web site photo equals dumb, dumb, dumb. It is a good thing they removed it.
Offended? Go back to Baltimore.
@Jim if nobody’s forcing you back on a boat to the vile cesspool some poor woman birthed you in then don’t you go sending kind folks back to Baltimore. I can assure you your ancestors weren’t here first either, so you have no right.
God bless you though… and lucky for you he doesn’t actually have to like you to do that.
“I’m training my grandchildren to use long-range rifles. For what purpose? Well, I’m not going to say the words ‘Barack Obama’, but. . .”
Peter Fonda
WTF? At least he didn’t mention a noose
The Fondas (Peter and Jane) have decent political ideas but they just can’t help but screw things up when they try to apply them. Peter the buffoon was trying to make a statement about the haves vs. the have-nots and the growing separation between the rich and poor — certainly a serious problem in modern society — but somehow it came across as veiled threat to shoot the president. On the other hand, if he had said, “I’m training my grandchildren to tie a proper hangman’s noose. For what purpose? Well, I’m not going to say the words ‘Barack Obama’ but…”, then I’ll bet he’d be in a lot more hot water today.
