Fri 26 – As always, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra kicks off its new season with three days of themed music in the last week of August. This year’s Classical Masters Festival concentrates on the music of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, and it also features Vadym Kholodenko performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. Sat 27 – Ulterior Motifs was conceived as a multimedia exhibition by Bryan and Jeff Wheeler in 1999 to celebrate the art and music of Lubbock. Now in its 14th edition, the exhibit has expanded to include artists from all over Texas. Fifteen of them will show their work today thru Oct 23 at the Arlington Museum of Art, 201 W Main St, FW. Sun 28 – When the Louvre was first founded, the great masterpieces of Western art would actually be taken out of their frames and placed on easels to allow art experts and other notaries of the day to examine the paintings up close. Hidden Lives of Masterpieces is a DVD series that uses this to analyze great works of art, and it screens for free at 2pm at the Kimbell Art Museum, 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, FW. Admission is free. Mon 29 – Baron Vaughn helped found the comedy series at Amphibian Stage Productions this year, and while three other standup comics preceded him on the venue’s stage, Vaughn (who’s best known as an actor on TV’s Grace and Frankie) will be here for the entire week workshopping new material. Tues 30 – Kevin Smith’s daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, and Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, debuted as a comedy duo in Smith’s film Tusk as two smartphone-zombie Canadian store clerks. We’ll see if they can hold an entire movie in the world premiere of Smith’s Yoga Hosers, an apocalyptic comedy that co-stars the actresses’ parents and a bunch of other famous people.
