The Dallas Observer‘s March 31 cover featured a deer with crosshairs on its skull, and the headline “One-Hit Wonders.”
The cover mocked Texas Rangers fans and their antler gestures, and predicted doom for the team, which was compared to one-hit wonders such as boxer Buster Douglas and rapper Vanilla Ice.
The story by former Fort Worth Star-Telegram sportswriter Richie Whitt described how the Texas Rangers baseball team was limping out of spring training and teetering toward a terrible year after its atypical trip to the playoffs last season.
Since then, the Rangers are sitting in first place with an 8-1 record and enjoying their best start in team history.
Richie Whitt shouldn’t be writing for an alt newspaper. He is as mainstream and lame as it gets.
I like the Observer and have for a very long time. However I do not care for Whitt and his old, boring opinion on sports.
